In the textile industry one the most environmentally disastrous processes is the dyeing of fibres and textiles with chemicals. During this workshop you will learn about the potential of dyeing with bacteria and you will dye with bacteria yourself. From sterilize to inoculate, you will learn how to collaborate with bacteria and dye textiles with these tiny friends. After a few days you will be able to see your beautiful end-result.
Potential of working with bacteria
At TextileLab Amsterdam we are primarily interested in bacterial pigments as a source of more sustainable textile dyes, but the possibilities for this versatile substance are endless. This workshop is interesting for creative makers and designers that want to work with this exciting new resource and come up with new applications. Could bacterial pigments support your own creative practice? Could you develop a new type of ink or paint?
