In\asense

Expanding the Sensory Dimensions of Fashion

Fashion is traditionally centered on sight and touch, but what if it could engage all five senses—evoking emotions, triggering memories, and deepening our connection to clothing? In\asense explores how garments can become interactive vessels for human experience, moving beyond aesthetics to create a multisensory dialogue.

This project is a first iteration, a starting point for a larger exploration of sensory fashion. It investigates how heightened sensory moments can be translated into garments, using an adapted version of Jinsop Lee’s 5 Senses Graph to map experiences where sound, smell, and touch play a dominant role. By focusing on an anonymous participant’s sensory memories rather than my own, the project ensures a universal and empathetic approach—where personal sensations are transformed into something relatable for others.

The design process incorporates material experimentation, innovative textiles, and interactive elements that engage multiple senses. From scented bio-plastics to sound-reactive garments, each piece is crafted to embody a sensory world rather than just an aesthetic vision. This methodology allows for deeper storytelling—where fashion is not just seen but felt, heard, and even smelled.

Beyond design, In\asense is about rethinking how we interact with clothing. Through exhibition and audience engagement, this first phase invites people to experience and contribute to the project. By sharing their own sensory memories, the project can evolve into an ongoing exploration of how garments can capture and communicate sensory experiences. The goal is to continue developing In\asense, pushing the boundaries of sensory fashion and fostering a deeper, more emotional connection between clothing, memory, and human perception.
